| Introduction to this FAQ and the game | IDX01 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Indiana Jones is one of the good old adventure games of long lost times.
If you wonder how to get this game, I cannot help you, I still got my copy from
times this was still in store. I'm sure there are sites you can download it
from, but since I cannot support software piracy, I cannot give you links.
If you can give me sites on which this game can be bought/downloaded from
WITHOUT VIOLATING COPYRIGHTS mail me, and I'll add those to this FAQ.
Also note that since this game is old you may NOT be able to play it on modern
machines. You may need an emulator to play it.
One of the best out there is DOSBox.
Download it from: http://www.dosbox.com
I recommand only to use this FAQ when you are stuck, or else this game will be
no challenge at all. If you are stuck look at the index on what you are doing
and look at the IDX code. Open a search window (Ctrl-F in Windows and Linux and
Apple-F in MacOS).
There are a few things you should know though.
- All items you pick up can be dropped anywhere you want. Please note that in
most cases you can come back for those items. However there is one point in
which you need to check before continuing or else the game can NOT be
completed.
- There are jewels everywhere across Kyrandia. They appear at random so I cannot
tell you where to look for those. Only a few specific ones can be found at
fixed places. You can do well, in collecting those, but since you can only
carry 10 items, you may want to store them all in one location as long as the
game allows it. There are only two tasks in which these jewels have value
- This game has a dozen of areas or "rooms" as we call them in adventure
programming terms. Each time you get into a new room I start with "-" and the
name of the room, so you can check if you are in the right room.
One important note.
Indiana Jones 3 is a game written before the "no-die" and "no-fatal-mistake"
policy. So it is possible to die in this game (though the possibilities to die
are not legio, like in a Sierra Game), and there are parts you can miss that
can be important later. At the start of each section, I'll note my inventory
so you can be sure you got everything you need before going into a new
section. If there are items missing, be sure you obtain them before continuing,
as you may not have a change to obtain those items later.
Well, that's all folks...
Let's get started on this
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| University | IDX02 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
At the start of the game, you may be asked for some translation, which is the
copy-protection. If you installed this game from a CD-ROM (or you were so
naugthy to play a pirated version) that part wll be skipped.
You start in the gymnasium. You can challenge the boxer for some fights. You'd
do well to do so. Not that you need it to finish the game, but it's great
practice since later in the game you may need to fight for your life in the same
manner. If you're done practicing, or if you don't want to practice leave this
room, to start the game....
- Open the door
- Enter the class.
- Say this to the students:
= Just a moment folks. I'm sure we can work something out
= Please relax. I have a solution that is fair for everyone
= Irene, take down names and I will see everyone in order
After this you'll end up in Indy's office.
- Pick up all the piles of papers from the desk
- Pick up the package (Indy will automaticly return all the junk on the desk)
- Open the package to obtain the Grail Dairy. That Dairy is gonna be extremely
important so hold on to it.
- Open the window
- Climb out of the window
Some men will ask you to come with them. They'll lead you to Walter Donovan who
has important information for you. After the chat you'll be back at the at
the entrance of the university.
- Travel to Henry's house
- Pick up the plant (Indy will put it beside the table)
- Pick up the cloth (A cabinet is revealed)
- Pull the upper bookcase
- Take the sticky tape from its backside
- Pick up the old painting from the bedroom
- Leave
- Enter your office by the window
- Use the sticky tape in the jar to get a small key
- Go back to Henry's house
- Open the cabinet with the small key
- Pick up the book in it
- It contains an old book (fake Grail Dairy)
- Leave
- Now travel and choose the plane to Venice
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Inventory:
Small Key Painting
Old Book Grail Dairy
Whip (obtained automaticly when you get here).
- Leave the library
- Go to the lovers most west of this square
- Look at the wine bottle and Indy will say that it's of a very bad year
- Now pick up the wine bottle (now that Indy has told the lovers the wine is bad
they'll let you have it).
- Go back into the library
- Exit west (front exit)
- Among the green books there's one you can pick up. Do so. It's a manual on
how to fly a biplane.
- Exit west
- Exit west (front)
- Pick up the book "Mein Kampf" from the shelf.
- Exit east
- Exit west (back)
- Exit west
- Exit west (back)
- Exit west
- Exit west (back)
- Exit west
- Exit west (back)
- Exit west
- Pick up the Cordon Barrier
- Pick up the metal post
Now it's time to read the grail dairy. First thing to do is to look at the
window in the grail dairy. Search the library until you found that window.
In the diary could be something like "If ye would enter follow the first on the
left" (or something semiliar as it changes each time you play).
If it's like in the example "First on the left" look at the inscription of the
left statue and note the first number. If it says third on the right the third
number on the right statue, and so on.
Use the metal post on the number you got and you should end up in the Roman
Catacombs.
If you picked the wrong one you'll be kicked out of the library and you'll never
be able to finish the game any more, so if that happens, load the game and try
over.

Inventory:
Small Key Painting*
Old Book Grail Dairy**
Whip** Wine Bottle**
Manual**(?) Mein Kampf*
Red Cordon**
Note. All items with * should be in your inventory, but there is a way to
finish the game without them, though it can be hard. Items with ** MUST be in
your inventory, if you don't have them, load an old savegame and get them.
Another note. If you go up, you'll be kicked out, and you can no longer finish
the game any more.
It is said that the rats in this catacombs can bite you and kill you. I've
never been able to confirm that, so I leave that one as just a rumor.
Enter the most left tunnel
You'll be in a maze. I'll describe the room I get into, if you end up in any
other room, go back into the maze and search it. It's too complicated to give
an exact route in this FAQ, so "search your way" will have to do, I'm afraid.
The first room you'll get is empty except for some skulls and skeletons.
- Get the hook of one of the skeletons.
- Exit east
Search the maze and the next room has some skeletons hanging on the wall and a
torch that isn't yet burning. Exit through the east door
In the maze go straight east to the next room. Exit that room through the east
way.
Go east all the way you can until you reach a lake.
- Fill the wine bottle with water here and exit west
Go back through the maze to the room with the torch (not hard to find)
- Use the wine bottle on the through to remove the mud sticking it
- Pull the torch and you'll fall through a trapdoor in a new section of the
maze. (The wine bottle will break)
Make your way through the maze until you get under the small lake. You see
a hatch dripping water on the ceiling here.
- Exit east
- Read the inscriptions and memorize them
- Exit west
- Put the hook on the wooden plug
- Use the whip with the hook
- Exit west
Keep going west in the maze to reach a ladder
- Climb the ladder
- Exit east
Follow the way east and you'll get where the lake used to be.
- Exit in the tunnel east
In the maze go west and you'll find a strange machine.
- Use the red cordron to fix it
- Pull the wheel to activate it. (It will look like nothing happened, but a
passage has opened in the lower level).
- Go back into the maze
Make your way through the maze.
The next room you should get into has a door and three statues beside it.
The Grail Dairy shows you the solution how the statues must be turned in order
to open the door.
Once you opened the door, enter to get in the next maze.
Search your way until you get in a room with a bridge.
- Cross it and exit west
(If the bridge is up you'll need to lower it on the previous level first)
The next room is empty except for some skeletons in the wall. Just exit west
The next room is the room with the "skull organ". A certain meldoy must be
played on it to open the door. The Grail Dairy describes which melody.
Once the melody has been played exit east
One more time in the maze (I know you must be tired of it by now), but it's the
final time. The next room should contain a casket which was the goal of this
part of the quest.
- Open the casket.
- Look in the casket.
Now Indy will see a corspe with a shield. The shield contains the clue Indy
needed. Take makes us ready for the next part of the journey.
- Open the rusty lock (east)
- Exit east
- Open the manhole cover
- Exit up
This ends this part. You'll automaticly be taken now to the Brunwald Castle
in Germany.
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Brunwald Castle | IDX05 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Enter Brunwald Castle and you'll meet the butler. Just throw a punch and you'll
knock him out. Now the quest begins.
Inventory:

Whip** Manual**(?)
Mein Kampf*
Okay, you are in a millitairy castle in Germany and it's just before the
second world war broke out, so it's in Nazi hands, so no need to tell you, you
have to be careful here. There are a lot of Nazi Guards walking around the
castle. Nearly all of them can fooled by saying the right things to them or
offering them the right item. Doing this wrong will result in a fight which
works the same way as the boxing at the start of the game, but this time, losing
means death.
Also in this part of the game, Indy will have to change clothes serveral times.
Always remember which clothes you were wearing when you spoke to that guard
before, since if you are wearing diffrent clothes the the time you spoke that
guard before they'll realize you were the intruder and start a fight.
The way this FAQ is written should prevent nearly ALL battles except for one
(which is far too easy to win even without trying).
And that's all you must know before doing this. Let's get started on this.
- Exit north
- In the corridor go east
- Take the most southern east door to meet a drunk guard
+----- DRUNK GUARD -----------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: IndyWear(tm) by LucasFilm
= Hello and how are you?
= May I get you another drink?
The guard will offer you his stein
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Talk to the Drunk Soldier again
+------ DRUNK GUARD ----------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: IndyWear(tm) by LucasFilm
= What are you doing here?
= I didn't expect to find a philosopher here!
= How is your commanding officer?
Now the guard will mention the name of Colonel Vogel. This is required
otherwise a combination to get past another guard will not work.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Leave this room
- Take the middle door to the east
You'll be in the kitchen
- Use the stein on the keg
- Use the beer in the stein to put out the fire under the roast
- Wait until all the steam has gone then pick up the roast
- Fill the stein again
- Leave
- Go back to the entrance of the castle
- Exit east (back entrance)
- In the corridor go south and a guard will stop you.
+------ GUARD 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: IndyWear(tm) by LucasFilm
= Where is the prisoner? I've come to interrogate him
= Gestapo. Special investigations. I'm Dietrich's successor.
= How do you know about that? Are you leaking infromation?
The guard will let you pass.
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- In this corridor take the east door
- Pick up the servant's uniform (DON'T PUT IN ON YET!!!!)
- Exit this room
- Follow the corridor to the west and a guard will stop you.
+------ GUARD 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: IndyWear(tm) by LucasFilm
= Hi! I'm selling fine leather jackets like the one I'm wearing
= I've got authorization. How else would I get here?
= 15 Marks. Just the thing for guard duty on cold nights
The guard will let you pass and even give you 15 marks (not that you needed
the cash, but still).
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Go upstairs
- Take the first door left
- Put on the servants uniform
- Leave
- Follow the corridor south until you meet another guard
+------ GUARD 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Servant's Uniform
= Offer an Item: Painting
The guard will leave
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Follow the corridor east
- Around the corner north and first door west (make sure the guard doesn't see
you).
- Open the chest
- Look in the chest (you'll find a uniform)
- Look at the uniform to find a key
- Put on the IndyWear(tm) by LucasFilm
- Leave
- In the corridor
= Go south
= Around the corner west
= First way (not door) north
= Follow the way till you get downstairs
= Go to the room where you found the servant's uniform before
- Use the brass key on the lock on the uniforms
- Pick up the grey uniform
- Leave
- In the corridor
= Go back upstairs
= Pick the first door to put on the grey uniform and go back into the
corridor
= Go south
= At the end go east
= Around the corner north
= Speak to the guard to the east
+------ GUARD 4 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Grey uniform
ATTENTION! This combination only works if the Drunk Guard mentioned the name
of Colonel Vogel.
= I'm on official business. May I pass?
= What? You don't remember me?
= Soldier! Is that any way to speak to a superiour officer?
= Colonel Vogel knows of me. Please call him right away.
The soldier will let you pass.
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
= Keep going east
= At the end south
= Take the west door
- Take the first aid kit
If you get into any fight, you can use it to heal up, but you can only do that
once, so don't waste it.
- Leave
- In the corridor
= North
= First way west
= At the end north
= Go west
= Take the most western door north
- A soldier will speak to you.
+------ GUARD 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Grey uniform
= Offer an item: Mein Kampf
The soldier will leave
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Put the beer (in your stein) in the grating to kill the alarm system
- Leave
- In the corridor
= East
= Most east door north
+------ GUARD 6 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Grey uniform
= I'm on official business. May I pass?
= No I was transferred here today. New orders.
= Certainly! You do have top secret clearance?
The guard will mention Siegfried's name. You need that name or the
combination for the final guard is not valid.
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Leave
- In the corridor
= West
= First way south
= At the end east
= At the end upstairs
= Go west and talk to the soldier
+------ GUARD 7 ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Grey uniform
= Soldier! Your pants are wrinkled
= And no time to remove the stain on your jacket?
= Sauce? You buffoon! You waste my time, stand aside!
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
= Take the most northern door west
- Go west and give the roast to the dog
- Pick up the trophy from the cabinet
- Open the middle-right drawer
- Get the pass out of the drawer
- Close the drawer
- Look at the pass and you'll learn a combination
- Leave
- In the corridor
= Go back downstairs
= West
= First way south
= At the end west
= Take the west door at the end
- Put on the IndyWear(tm) by LucasFilm
- Go west to find a paint-by-numbers version of Mona Lisa
- Push that Mona Lisa painting
- Open the vault door behind it (Indy will automaticly use the combination he
got from the travel pass).
- Enter the vault.
In here you'll see two paintings. The small one (you gave to a guard before)
and a big one of a man holding the Holy Grail. Take note of that one as you
need to remember what the Grail Looks like later in the game. After memorizing
that picture, leave this room and go back to the corridor.
(For your reference: I made a screenshot of this room, and posted it under
this URL: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3531/paintingofgrailxh8.png
If that link no longer works, mail me, and I may repost that shot).
- Go back to the kitchen

- Go back to the entrance
- Take the back exit east
- In the corridor
= Follow the corridor to the second floor
= Use the room west to change into the grey uniform and continue south
= Follow the corridor, and go east at the end
= At the end north
= At the end east
= North upstairs
= West then south
= First way west to meet the big soldier
+----- BIFF THE NAZI ----------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Grey uniform
Offer an Item: Trophy (only works if it's filled with beer)
The guard will still try to kill you, but he's so drunk now that he'll fall
as soon as you hit him
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
= Go west and immediatly South
= Speak with the guard
+------ SIEGFRIED -------------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Grey uniform
This combo only works in old versions (in which there was a bug) or when
a diffrent soldier mentioned Siegfried's name.
= I'm on official business. May I pass?
= No, I was transferred here today. New orders.
= Certainly! You do have top secret clearance?
If an other guard mentioned Siegfried's name (or when you have an old
version) the guard will let you pass. Otherwise you'll get a fight
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
= Go east and take the north door at the end of the corridor
- Pick up the silver key from the candles and leave
- In the corridor
= East
= At the end north
= At the end west
= Here are three doors. Examine them until you found the one wires connected
to it.
- Use the silver key to open it
- Enter
- You'll meet Henry at last. Leave the room.
- Move through the corridor until you are caught by the guards.
Colonel Vogel will also appear.
+------ COLONEL VOGEL ---------------------------------------------------------+
Clothing: Doesn't matter
= Offer an item: Grail Diary
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Now you'll be tied with Henry to chairs. The next operation is dangerous, one
false move = DEATH!!!
- Pull the chairs all the way east till you reach the armor.
- Now SAVE YOUR GAME!!!!!!
- Push the armor. When the chairs are site right, you are free, if not you are
dead.
- Push a statue on the fireplace
- Escape via the fireplace
(Indy will drop some stuff you no longer need).
- Go to the motorbike east. Use it to get away from here and to enter the new
part of the game.

You have to deal with a guard here. Say the next things:
= My authorization? You insult me!
= You talk this way to a senior officer?
= I am operating undercover. It's classified.
= It's top secret. I have no ID.
The guard will let you pass.
Okay you'll be in Berlin, you'll have a long chat and after that you'll be
lead to none other than Adolph Hitler himself. (Whoops). Give him the pass
and without realizing who you are or what you are doing here he'll sign it and
leave. After that you'll end up at the airport.

Tickets*
- Give the tickets to the officer
Now you need to do this quickly or else you'll be in trouble.
- Switch to Henry
- Exit west
- Put some coins in the bowl at the piano.
- Just ask the player for any tune you want
(a engineer will leave his post)
- Now be quick!!! Switch back to Indy and exit north
- Open the radio (Indy will vandalize it)
- Open the cabinet and take the wrench and leave this room
- Now wait for the radio man to return. When he closed the door use the
wrench on the hole beside the door to make a ladder come down
(Turn it on to activate it)
- Climb that ladder
Now this part is just a small maze with soldiers in it. All of them will
start to fight you, so try to avoid them as much as you can. Find your way
until you reach the exit.
Now you'll have to fly, I'm not quite sure if that is possible without the
manual. Anyway in the end you'll be shot and crash.
Go to your father and wake him up. Then use the car to go away.
All guard posts can be passed by showing them the pass. Since it's signed
by the Fuhrer, all guards will let you pass. Do this all the way until you
reach Iskenderun.

Unon arrival save your game, this is the last time the game allows it.
When you are ready to face the final trials enter the ruin.
- Follow the way until you meet Donovan. After he shot your father you'll
automaticly go into the trials.
Trial 1: Only the Penitent Man Will Pass
- Stand at the north wall (close to some kind of alcove. Hard to explain)
- Cross the room diagonally to get past this.
(There is a spot that marks were to click)
Trial 2: The footsteps of God's
This puzzle changes a each time you have to try this. The game will tell
you the word "Jehovah" in a foreign language. Make your way over by only
stepping on the slabs that contain the letters of that spelling.
Trial 3: The invisible bridge
Walk in a straight line east and you'll be over. Don't hesitate, cause then
people will call for you and mess up your position.
Now meet the knight, after your talk to him choose the right grail.
The painting you saw in Brunwald Castle should hit you. Which grail it is
can differ each game (I think).
Once you picked one cup use it on the holy water. If you chose right you'll
leave, if you chose wrong you'll die.
(I chose the one with Greek Inscriptions, but I'm not quite sure if it
differs each time you play).
Now you'll be back at the entrance.
After your father is healed there are 3 possible endings.
Ending #1:
- Pick up the grail and give it back to the knight.
Ending #2:
- Pick up the grail and try to leave the temple. You'll be killed but the game
will count it as "completed"
Ending #3:
- Either wait for Elsa to pick up the grail or give it to her, and she'll
try to leave the temple and get herself killed.
- Examine the crack in which Elsa fell
- Use the whip to recover the grail
- Give it to the knight (alas, Elsa is dead, so you cannot save her).
Choose the ending you like most and the game is finished.
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU COMPLETED INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUISADE!!!

AND NEVER FORGET TO TELL ME WHICH FAQ OF MINE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
I get a lot of mails in which I must guess which FAQ it is we're talking
about, and since I'm very busy as a contributor for GameFAQs, and ocasionally
other sites, I have quite a lot of FAQs here. So it will help me a lot when
I know which FAQ/Game it is you're talking about. :)
And one last thing. Below are remarks I got a lot about my FAQs. Some are
funny, and some are just plainly too stupid for words. I don't want to be
an arrogant bastard or anything, but some of them tire me a lot.
So here are those mails with my standard replies:
M: Fix your English
A: Some people say they hardly hear the diffrence between me and an
English speaking fellow. Others say it sucks. Well, I honestly don't
care in which category you are. English is NOT my first language. If
I spoke my own language you probably couldn't read my FAQs at all.
M: HEY IDIOT! FIX YOUR FAQ!
A: Anyone who sends mail like this won't receive a reply. In fact they
will be banned from ever mailing me again. I can understand you do not
agree with my technique. There are as many as there are people. I can
also agree you detected that I made a mistake. Well, I'm human you know.
Making mistakes is part of my nature, as much as it's yours. If you
detect errors in my FAQ you can tell me about it in a civil way, and
I'll fix it if I agree with you.
M: Are you a man? A woman? How old are you? Where do you live?
A: I really got that kind of mails a lot. I don't mind that you know.
I was quite amused by such mails actually.
Well, my name is Jeroen Broks. I'm not going to give my private adres
in this FAQ or anywhere else on the internet, but you may know that
I live in the Netherlands, I am a man, and I was born in 1975. So on
the moment I started on this version of this FAQ I was 31 years old.
M: Fsdasdadasf afsdfasd afdfsaf
A: Whatever you say I don't understand it. If you mail me, please only do
so in either English or Dutch or if you really need in German.
(Be perpared that if you speak German to me, you might get an answer in
English, tough).
I don't speak any other language.
M: May I translate your FAQ into another language?
A: If you ask my permission, mostly no problem
M: Why is Neoseeker banned from hosting your FAQs?
A: That's something between me and Neoseeker. I don't find it necesary to
go into detail about that. I noted it in my FAQs to make sure they
will never pop up there unnoticed. So don't mail me about it
cause I won't answer. I got very good reasons for it. That's all you
need to know.
And so far this FAQ. I hope you have good use for it!
